Biography

JIA Suotang is a professor and doctoral advisor at State Key Laboratory of Quantum Optics and Quantum Optics Devices, Institute of Laser Spectroscopy, Shanxi University. He is the Chief Scientist of the National Major Scientific Research Program (973), Project Leader of the National Disciplinary Innovation and Talent Introducing Program ("111 Program"), Director of the International Joint Research Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center of Extreme Optics, Experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council. He was selected into the Cross-century Excellent Talents Training Program of the Ministry of Education in 2002. He has many social part-time jobs, including Vice Chairman of the Optical Society of China, Chairman of the Optical Society of Shanxi Province, Expert of the General Expert Group of the Ministry of Science and Technology "Quantum Regulation and Quantum Information", Member of the Department of Physics and Management of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education, Deputy Director of the National Physics Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education member.

Jia Suotang, borned in Qinyuan County, Shanxi Province in 1958, graduated from the Department of Physics of Shanxi University in 1982, obtained a master's degree in optics from Shanxi University in 1989, and obtained a Ph.D in optics from East China Normal University in 1994. From 1995 to 1996, he was a visiting scholar engaging in the research of laser spectroscopy in the Laser Physics Laboratory of Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS). From January to April 2005, he was a visiting scholar at the Laboratoire Aimé Cotton of CNRS, implementing research on ultracold atoms and molecules. He successively went to the University of Maryland, Yale University and University of Connecticut for academic visits and cooperative research. In 1994, he was appointed as the director of the Department of Electronics of Shanxi University. In 1997, he was appointed as a professor of Shanxi University. In 1998, he was appointed as the director of the Academic Affairs Office of Shanxi University. In 2000, he was appointed as the vice president of Shanxi University. In 2010 he was appointed as the president of North University of China. During Aug. 2011 and Sep. 2018, he was appointed as the president of Shanxi University.

Professor Jia has been engaged in the research of laser spectroscopy, nonlinear optics and quantum information for a long time. He is the first one who build an experimental platform for ultracold molecules in China, and has made remarkable progress in the preparation of ultracold homonuclear molecules, heteronuclear molecules and precise spectral measurements. The research teams he leads have carried out scientific researches and achieved many distinctive achievements on ultracold Rydberg atoms, single molecule physics, novel photoacoustic spectroscopy, and high-sensitivity spectroscopy applications. He has successively presided over 20 national-level scientific research projects such as the National Major Scientific Research Program, the "973" Pre-research Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China Key Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Major Scientific Research Instrument Development Project, and the National Natural Science Foundation, and more than 30 ministerial-level projects. He has published more than 50 papers in the first area in top domestic and foreign journals such as Nature Physics, Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, etc. He has won 4 first prizes and 2 second prizes of Shanxi Science and Technology, obtained more than 80 national invention patents.
