Research Area:
[1] Light-matter interactions based on optical nanofiber
The nanofiber is stretched by flame brushing. The diameter of the nanofiber is 500 nm over a length of 5 mm fabricated from a single mode fiber (Fibercore, SM800-5.6-125). Waveguided light is tightly confined near the nanofiber surface and interacts with the trapped atoms.
[2] Optomechanical cooling of nanofiber torsional mode
The torsional mode motion of nanofiber is induced by the thermal noise. Linearly polarized light can exert a torque on a birefringent object when passing through it. We demonstrate the optomechanical cooling of a tapered optical nanofiber by coupling the polarization of light to the mechanical angular momentum of the system.
